A charity shop with a difference
Sam's Place is a charity shop in Southsea with two goals: to raise money for Samaritans of Portsmouth and East Hampshire, and to help reduce isolation and loneliness in the local community.
We sell good quality donated clothes, fashion accessories, books, china and glass, kitchenware, paintings and much more. Everything is fairly priced, and our pricing helps show what each purchase enables Samaritans to do locally.
Sam's Place is also a community hub with space available to hire for local community groups, clubs, meetings, workshops and other community events.
Funds raised by Sam's Place help keep the Portsmouth and East Hampshire branch running, supporting volunteer training, outreach and the day-to-day costs of being there for callers.
The branch is a local charity run entirely by volunteers from across our area. Every year, they answer more than 25,000 calls, providing vital support to those who need it. Keeping the branch open costs around £35,000 annually.

Community Hub
A flexible space for Southsea
Sam's Place doubles as a flexible community hub. With moveable fixtures and fittings, our shop floor can be adapted to suit a wide range of activities, meetings and events.
We're always looking for new ways to bring people together. If you have an idea for a class, workshop, support group or other activity and think Sam's Place could be the right venue, we'd be delighted to hear from you.
The room can be rented for £25 an hour, or used free of charge when all money raised from your class or event is donated back to Sam's Place.

Volunteer
Join our Samaritans team
Volunteer in the shop
Sam's Place needs volunteers Monday to Saturday, with shifts from 10am - 1pm and 1pm - 5pm.
Training is provided, and the work can include welcoming customers, sorting donations, preparing displays and helping the shop run smoothly.

If you are interested in becoming a listening volunteer with Samaritans, the Portsmouth and East Hampshire branch would be delighted to welcome you to an information session.
You do not need a counselling background. The role is about listening carefully, calmly and without judgment, with training and ongoing support from the branch.
